Ballarat’s skate scene is pumping, and we’re lucky to have some top-notch skateparks just a stone’s throw from our Ballarat store and the heart of the CBD. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced skater, there’s a park nearby to suit your style.
We’ve put together a quick guide to some of our favorite local parks in Ballarat and surrounding areas — perfect for planning your next session or discovering a spot to skate.
Barkley Skatepark (main park)
Located at L T Fraser Reserve, Ballarat East, Barkley is just a short walk or drive (850m) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD.
By far Ballarat's best skatepark, known for it's great vibes, awesome skating, and a great crew of locals. This park has an incredible flow that will get you skating the best of both worlds, transition and street. It's suitable for all ages and skill levels, although the layout is probably a bit more intermediate-friendly.
Barkley Skatepark is also set to undergo a major upgrade and extension in the near future. The initial completion date was scheduled for February 2025, but we’re still waiting to hear more from the local council. Local skaters remain hopeful the upgrade is still on track.
Sebastopol Skatepark
Located at M R Power Reserve, Sebastopol, this skatepark is about a 10-minute drive (6.7km) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD.
Built by Convic in 2023, Power Reserve is one of Ballarat's newest skateparks featuring a healthy blend of street and transition elements. It's a great skatepark for learning, with unique elements that are suitable for all skill levels and ages.
Buninyong Skatepark
Located at the Buninyong Recreation Park, this skatepark is about a 15-minute drive (10.9km) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD.
The park features primarily transition elements, with a few street obstacles in between. It's close to the local shops and also includes a pump track and playground off to the side. Suitable for all skill levels and ages, this park is typically pretty quiet and a great space to learn.
Smythesdale Skatepark
Located next to Smythesdale Recreation Reserve, this skatepark is a 25-minute drive (21.1km) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD.
Smythesdale is one of Ballarat's newer skateparks and is well worth the trip if you're into street or transition. The park has great flow with small transitions around the outskirts with street elements in between. It's close to the local shops and features a pump track off to the side. Another great skatepark suitable for all ages and skill levels.
If you're in Smythesdale and making a day of it, we highly recommend checking out Snake Valley's skatepark while you're out there!
Snake Valley Skatepark
Located at 874 Linton-Carngham Rd, Snake Valley, this skatepark is about a 30-minute drive (30.4km) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD. It's only a short 9-minute drive from the Smythesdale skatepark, so if you're nearby, this is definitely one to check out.
Built within the last five years, the park is usually pretty quiet. It has great flow and offers a healthy blend of street and transition elements. It also features a bowl with both shallow and deep sections. Suitable for all ages and skill levels, although the layout is probably a bit more intermediate-friendly.
Gordon Skatepark
Located at 45 Main St, Gordon, this skatepark is about a 22-minute drive (24.5km) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD.
Gordon is a small-sized skatepark, but definitely a heap of fun. Built within the past couple of years, it's usually pretty quiet. The park features both street and transition elements and is suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Ballan Skatepark
Located next to Mill Park, Ballan, this skatepark is about a 28-minute drive (35.4km) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD.
Built within the last several years, it's primarily a transition-based skatepark with some street elements integrated. If you love tranny, this park is heaps of fun and features elements of all sizes, regardless of your age or skill level. Definitely a great park to up your tranny game and learn a trick or two.
Meredith Skatepark
Located next to the Meredith Cricket & Recreation Reserve, this skatepark is a 36-minute drive (40.9km) from Skin Ski + Surf and the CBD.
Another great skatepark upgrade built within the last few years. The park includes both street and transition elements and is suitable for all ages and skill levels. Definitely a good park to check out if you're heading to Ballarat from Geelong — or vice versa.
